Zagreb Book Festival

  • Listopada, Booksa croatia (map)

From October 7–9, 2025, Booksa will host the 21st edition of the Review of Small Literatures (Revija malih književnosti), a festival known for championing authors whose voices are often sidelined by mainstream publishing. This year’s edition is dedicated to Romani literature in Europe.

As part of the festival, the anthology Names That Bloom in the Cracks of the Abyss (eds. Ivana Dražić and Karolina Hrga) will be published, bringing together thirteen contemporary Romani writers—poets, prose authors, and dramatists—whose work highlights the diversity of Romani literature, its linguistic and aesthetic innovation, and the richness of its narrative forms. The title is drawn from a line by poet Noelia Cortés—“Fascism above all hates the names that bloom in the cracks of the abyss”—a reminder of the beauty and resilience that arise even in the darkest times, and of Romani stories that, despite ongoing attempts to erase them from historical memory, endure to this day.

Contributors include Almir Agić, Patrik Banga, Noelia Cortés, Akile Eminova, Mihaela Drăgan, Raine Geoghegan, Delia Grigore, Tamás Jónás, Oksana Marafioti, Jovan Nikolić, Ruždija Russo Sejdović, Maria Sivákova, and Alexian Santino Spinelli. Audiences will have the opportunity to meet the authors featured in the anthology, hear readings and conversations, and purchase Names That Bloom in the Cracks of the Abyss.

Program and additional details to follow.
